Recruitment stages

Stage I: online registration - filling in an electronic recruitment form.

Stage II: interview – taking part in the interview aimed at testing the ability and artistic skills of the candidate (more about the interview).

Stage III: submission of documents and collecting a referral for medical examination - on the day of the interview, the candidate is required to collect a referral for a medical examination and may submit the documents required to apply for studies.

Recruitment for the 7-semester undergraduate studies at the Graphic design major is done in three stages:

Stage I

Online registration – filling in the recruitment form in the WSTI electronic recruitment system.

Interview appointment reservation - after registration via the recruitment form, the candidate receives an e-mail confirmation of their registration and an individual, automatically generated link to make a reservation for the interview. Reservation can only be made online after filling the recruitment form. Interview appointment reservation is necessary to proceed to the next stage of the recruitment (Stage II).

Stage II

Interview – taking part in the interview which aims to test the ability and artistic skills of the candidate. The interview includes:

  1. verification of interests and the artistic preparation of the candidate,
  2. assessment of a candidate's portfolio consisting of 5 to 15 own works of art and/or design works in the field of:
    – drawing (including sketches),
    – painting,
    – sculpture (photographs),
    – photography,
    – multimedia works,
    – design work.

The portfolio does not have to include works from all of the aforementioned categories and can be submitted in electronic form (PDF file, jpg or html). The subject matter and size (dimensions) of the presented works can be arbitrary. More about interview. More about portfolio.

Stage III

Submission of documents and collecting referral for a medical examination - the candidate is required to obtain the referral for a medical examination and shall submit the required documents:

  • photocopy of the Secondary School Final Examination results and the original available for inspection (IMPORTANT! A copy of the Secondary School Final Examination results will be treated as an original document);

  • photocopy of identity card (both sides) - original for inspection,

  • 2 recent color photos (35mm x 45mm without a hat on a light background)

  • medical certificate issued by the occupational medicine physician stating no contraindications to undertake studies in Information technology (download the form: *.pdf)
    – referral for the medical examination to be collected from the Recruitment Office and after obtaining a medical certificate submit a set of documents,
    – at the Recruitment Office one can submit all documents except the medical certificate, then get a referral for medical examination and conduct it at the office of an occupational medicine physician - the medical certificate must be delivered in person or sent by post within two weeks from the date of submission of documents and collecting the referral,

  • proof of payment of the administrative recruitment fee (does not apply to candidates during the promotion period)

  • certificate of disability, if a degree of disability was determined.

  • Declaration of will to study at the Katowice Institute of Information Technologies (please read the document). The Declaration will be issued for signature at the Office of Recruitment.

  • Educational Agreement. The document will be signed together with the decision on admission for studies.

Within 14 days from the date of registration in the online registration system (stage I) the candidate is obliged to personally deliver the set of documents referred to above, as well as submit the results of the medical examination and sign a declaration of will to study and personal information questionnaire.

Remember to sign up for a visit to the occupational medicine physician, and then collect a referral in our Recruitment Office. Tests may be performed at the PROFIMED – ul. Gliwicka 2, Katowice – after prior registration by phone or mail.

 

Foreigners are required to provide:

  • A photocopy of a visa, residence card or other document entitling to stay in the territory of the Republic of Poland and the original for inspection; a photocopy of the Pole's Card and the original for inspection (if applicable).

  • A photocopy of the Maturity Certificate or a document equivalent to the Polish Maturity Certificate, translated by a sworn translator entered on the list of sworn translators of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Poland and bearing an apostille clause, and the original for inspection.

  • Certificate confirming the knowledge of the Polish language at the language proficiency level of at least B2, issued by: the State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language, authorized by the Minister responsible for higher education and science to organize examinations in Polish as a foreign language at a certain language proficiency level (a Polish or foreign university conducting studies in Polish philology, a Polish or foreign entity that has been conducting foreign language courses or classes in teaching Polish or Polish as a foreign language or other didactic classes in Polish for at least three years).

  • A photocopy of the insurance policy in case of illness or accident, covering the period of education in Poland, and the original available for inspection. All documents issued in a foreign language will be accepted together with a translation into Polish prepared by a sworn translator entered on the list of sworn translators of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Poland.

DELIVERY OF DOCUMENTS IS A NECESSARY CONDITION WHEN REGISTERING FOR STUDIES!

Medical examination

Referral for examination must be collected at the Recruitment Office. Tests may be performed at the TOMMED/PROF-MED, ul. Żelazna 1, 40-952 Katowice – after prior registration by phone or mail.

CANDIDATES TAKE NOTE!!!

Referral for medical examination is to be collected at the Recruitment Office (Institute Dean Office).

Tests conducted at the TOMMED/PROF-MED are reimbursed by the Institute.

Medical certificates (on the required document, issued by a doctor authorized to carry out preventive examinations) made in other occupational health clinics will be accepted.

How to book a date for the interview?

Reservation of an interview appointment date can only be done online and is necessary to proceed with the interview. It can be made after prior registration for a degree in Graphic Design made by the recruitment form. After completing the form, the candidate receives a login and password for an individual account, where they can book the date of the interview.

What is the subject of the interview?

The interview is designed to test the ability and artistic skills of the candidate and to assess the portfolio. The interests and motivation of the candidate are verified. Examples of issues discussed during the interview are:

  • achievements and design/artistic experience of the candidate (related nature of artistic or professional nature of the work, hobbies, artistic education, etc.)

  • formal preparation of the candidate for artistic studies (completed schools, courses, training, participation in art classes, project groups, etc., practical knowledge of graphic design software, etc.)

  • general knowledge of design trends, styles of art, etc.,

  • sources of inspiration of the candidate (the ability to display your favorite artists and/or works, magazines, books or websites about art, photography, drawing, painting, design - depending on the candidate's interests)

  • cultural activity (participation in artistic events, visiting galleries, museums, theaters, etc.)

  • overall motivation to apply for studies of an artistic nature.

These issues do not constitute an exhaustive list.

Comprehensive preparation is not required of the candidate. However, he should have at least a basic knowledge of art and design, aesthetic sense, at least intermediate technical skills and motivation for intensive training.

The maximum number of points gained for assessing the suitability and skills of the candidate during the interview is 6 points. The minimum required number of points necessary for positive verification of the candidate during the interview for assessing the suitability and skills is 2 points.

Positive verification of the candidate allowing him to qualify for the third stage of recruitment for artistic studies at the Graphic Design major requires a minimum total of 4 points scored during the interview, the two points earned for portfolio and for assessing the suitability and skills of the candidate.

The interview lasts approx. 10 minutes.

The interview result is presented to the Candidate immediately after its completion.
On the same day, after a positive result, Candidates may submit the required documents at the Recruitment Office.

 

All about portfolio

The portfolio should include 5 to 15 own works of art and/or design on any topic, of any dimensions and form, including electronic form is permitted (PDF files, jpg or html). The Institute provides candidates with a computer, where they can showcase their work delivered in electronic form.

Portfolio - what should it contain?

The portfolio should include 5 to 15 own works of art and/or design on any topic, of any dimensions and form, including electronic form is permitted (PDF files, jpg or html). The Institute provides candidates with a computer, where they can showcase their work delivered in electronic form.

The work may represent any of the following categories:

  • drawing (including sketches)

  • painting,

  • sculpture (photographs),

  • photography,

  • multimedia works,

  • design work.

The portfolio does not have to include works from all of the above categories.

The portfolio is assessed in terms of characteristics such as:

  • diversity and the overall level of work,

  • diversity and proper application of artistic techniques,

  • plastic and compositional awareness,

  • references to the style and design trends,

  • creative individuality.

A candidate can earn up to 4 points for the portfolio.
The minimum number of points earned for the portfolio necessary to qualify for Stage III recruitment of the Graphics major is 2 points. Please note that the total number of points scored for the interview and portfolio, allowing a candidate to qualify for the third stage of recruitment, should reach a minimum of 4 points.
